How many times have you wished that you could send or reply to a text message right from your desktop or notebook - rather than your cell phone? Sending texts from your computer is useful in lots of different situations. Perhaps you lost your phone and need to send or respond to a message. Maybe you just hate typing on a tiny keyboard. What if your cellular service is down or out of range? There are many on-line services that will help you text, but none of them are as simple and reliable as the method below - and the majority of the others either are loaded with ads or want to get into your pocket.

If you simply want to send an SMS (test message) to any mobile phone you can do it right from your desktop email client so long as you know the person's phone number and the name of their service provider. At this place (or by using the information in in CyberTrick #2) you will find a list of some of the most common U.S. service providers and their corresponding gateway addresses. In either case, sending a message is easy.

Just compose an email like you normally would, but rather than entering the person's email address in the recipient box, simply insert their 10-digit phone number with the appropriate @gateway address behind it. Then, hit send.

You should limit your messages to less than 160 characters. This method is entirely free for you but messaging rates may still apply to the person receiving these messages.

Neat trick.

You get a call from a cell number and get curious. What carrier is that number registered with? Is this information useful to you? You will need this information when you want to send a text message from your computer (See Trick #1) rather than your cell phone.

Another way to get the carrier information is to go to this tricky place and insert the cell number. Shazam - the carrier for that caller appears on your screen. These nice folks supply this service free once a day. If you think you will be a frequent user, you can get a thousand non-expiring searches for $10 - about the cost of a good ice cream cone.

Once you have the carrier name you can use your regular e-mail software to send texts without wrenching your cell phone out of its holster.

Trick 1

If you had the patience, you could have propped yourself up on a recliner on the moon for the past 32 years with a high-powered telescope and watched these 6 major world cities on earth develop - block by block. Each shot starts in 1984 and shows the cities growth up to 2016.

Or in a much less exhausting exercise - just go to this great place and watch Las Vegas, Dubai and four other major world areas evolve - right on the computer screen and from the comfort of your desk.

Well worth the 3 minutes it takes to gasp watching the magic of Google Earth!

Information on the Deep Web (invisible web, dark web or hidden web) is part of the World Wide Web that is not indexed by standard search engines and therefore pretty much invisible until someone discovers the hidden content and indexes it.

This great place has a huge database of powerful information useful to real estate owners, investors or agents. These folks have assembled a well-organized free aggregation of over 4000 databases (many that were Deep Web previously) all arranged geographically. They cover every state in the US, Worldwide Continents --- and (get this) Outer Space!

Want the assessed value of all real estate in Los Angeles - plus the assessor's maps? How about a state government phone directory in Montana? Market got you down --get the scoop on that Psychiatrist in Tuscaloosa?
