Hate to throw a pall on your day - but try to picture a possible scene where you are in an ambulance on your way to a hospital for help from an accident or a medical emergency. Will your spouse and/or family know about this critical event promptly?

A lot of folks don't know this yet, but the smart phone folks are constantly coming up with ways to address these personal issues. For example, the iPhone people have created an app (built right into the phone's operating system) called "Medical ID". Here you can store your important medical data along with the important contact information on your emergency contacts, along with instructions to contact them immediately.

This service has been widely promoted amongst emergency responders and hospital emergency rooms and the developers instruct users to put the app right at the top of their app page so medical providers can spot it quickly.

You'll sleep better knowing that this is almost always with you.

PS: Android users can use a similar medical app. It's also called "Medical ID".

Here's a way to protect yourself and help fight crime at the same time. This public service from the FBI is a no-cost app for most smart phones. With this you have the full information of the FBI on fugitives, criminals and terrorists in your pocket and readily available - all without going to the post office to read "Wanted" posters.

The app allows you to view, search, sort, filter, and bookmark the full range of information issued by the FBI. That includes pictures and descriptions of wanted fugitives, missing persons, crime suspects, deceased victims, and others the Bureau is seeking to locate or identify.

If you spot one of the bad guys, there are even buttons so you can either call the FBI or link directly to the Bureau's online form for providing tips.

Now you can be a living breathing Dick Tracy - just keep out of the way and let the pros do the heavy lifting.
